Our First Week

We made it through the first week without having a panic attach, crying, or getting on a plane and heading back to Texas. Well, maybe I was short of breath a few times but that was probably from walking around so much. Definitely not from being overwhelmed about living in a new place, having no friends, no place of our own, or only having 170 lbs of our belongings with us. But, looking back…I can see how everything turned out perfect!
Things we accomplished in our first week:

1. Brent rode the bus to work everyday.

2. We got our car. This was quite a site watching the car being driven off the truck. People on the street stopped to watch the action.

3. We found an apartment!!! This is, by far, the biggest accomplishment. People have been telling us it often takes months to find an apartment here. I couldn’t have done this without Aunt Glenda who drove me around all week and helped me know what to look for and what questions to ask. Thanks Aunt Glenda!!

4. We bought a microwave AND carried it two blocks to our apartment. (More about this in my next post).

5. I picked Brent up from work every day and we both have learned our way around pretty well. Brent is getting good at parallel parking…I haven’t gotten much practice yet.

6. We tried one restaurant from our new ZAGAT restaurant guide. It was a pizza place called Pizzetta 211. It was good, but still, no pizza can compare to Home Slice in Austin.

7. We got a new bank (ours is only in Texas).

8. Brent found a store that sells Mexican Coke.

9. We walked 39 blocks to the beach.

10. (I feel like there should be a #10 but nothing really comes to mind...)

Thank you to everyone who prayed for us, called, or was thinking of us these last few weeks. Even though we had some minor set backs, as a whole, everything went better than I could have expected. And, its good to be reminded that we do have friends just not in SF yet ☺. However, I know all of you will be visiting soon.

Which reminds me our first visitors will be coming in two weeks (Amy & Randy Couchman) and I can’t wait! Today, I got an email that our second visitor will be coming late November, and it happens to be one of my second graders whose family will be in SF and they want to meet for dinner. I’m SO excited because I miss my kids so much.

So, we are now looking for a third visitor...
