Mushy Gushy Stuff

Friday was Brent's last day at Hatch and yesterday was our 6th anniversary. I could have never imagined what an adventure our first six years of marriage would be. Thank you God for every minute of it.

Brent,
I'm so proud of you and still amazed by your talent. I remember when we first became friends I didn't know what graphic design was. I would sit on your futon and watch you design on your computer. It amazed me to watch a blank screen become a work of art. I still watch you sometimes and it still amazes me.

You are the most ambitious person I know.  Each year you'd share with me your goal for yourself. It took me a few years to realize that you were ACTUALLY accomplishing your goals each year. You wanted to get freelance projects when your full-time job wasn't enough of a creative outlet. You wanted to design maps and you got so many map projects you were tired of them. In college you made a list of your top choice of design studios to work at and Hatch was at the top of the list. You wanted to design packaging, more illustration, work for Coco-Cola and on and on. You have achieved so much in so little time.

A year and half ago I was terrified to leave Texas and move to SF. Dallas had been our home for the first 4.5 years of marriage. I will never forget our last weekend in Dallas. On Friday I picked you up from Fossil. It was your last day at Fossil and the art department gave you a standing ovation as you walked out of the building. You just sat there in the car speechless. We met our realtor to close on our house. Saturday we finished packing (Amy and Bryan helped) and our movers never showed up. Sunday afternoon we arrived at the airport with 125 lbs of luggage. The movers didn't show up till late Sunday night. We're so lucky Amy was kind enough to wait on the movers until 1a.m. Sunday afternoon we arrived in SF. We barely knew Aunt Glenda who had graciously agreed for us to live with her until we found an apartment. You started at Hatch on Monday, and Glenda drove me around for 4 days until we found a suitable apartment. Our sf apartment was a downgrade by 1000 sq feet, a yard, a dining room, a garage, and a dishwasher but we found the smaller space was kinda nice. We moved in with our 3 suitcases and slept on our air mattress until the movers delivered our things the following week. Each week got easier. We made friends and found a good church home. We explored the city, discovered our favorite restaurants and sights. We even got to work three blocks away from each other for 5 priceless months. Biking to work together was one of my favorite things to do, except for the two bike wrecks I got in. Every day is an adventure and I can't wait to see where this next phase takes us. Brent, I love you with all my heart and I will never forget how blessed I am to have married you.
